This plot pulled me in because I knew that the theme of the book "PEACE at all costs" was a feel good solution to a problem no on in this age had any experience with. The best laid plans of mice & men often go astray well in this book boy does the PLOT go astray! The leaders are above & out of society living together on the top of a mountain so they could lead lives of contemplation helping their people continue to live harmonious lives. The people are not allowed any individuality for fear this will lead again to WAR. The people don't think for themselves ever they live by the rules set down by their leaders on the mountain. The leaders did keep a combat unit they call "the shields" these men are the only ones who guard the leaders, who have the right to kill for any offense they think deserves it. Thankfully the people are docile sheep. The Shields are taken from the moment they are born & trained all their life for any problems that the people or leaders will encounter.The first glitch comes when an object is spotted heading for a planet they have a base on I think the Moon but it could be Mars sorry. The leaders of the mountain are anxious to let the object know Earth will accept them in peace. The object was coming towards them at a good speed but after receiving the message they literally increased their speed till they were practically flying at warp speed.
The Shields don't like this they feel uneasy because what ever the object is it chose not to answer our message of peace. The main leader goes to the Moon in the largest space ship the Earth has with several Shields, as well as other advisers they believe a peaceful meeting is about to happen & though they outwardly don't show any dislike for the shields insistence that for now the leader will follow their guidelines for his own safety inwardly the leader feels it is silly to act so war like. After landing on the Moon base the head Shield finds to his dismay the military force guarding the Moon has let all practice with their guns, or simulating drills in case someone would attack the Moon base stop. The commander explains to the head Shield it's foolish to believe we will ever have such a debilitating War ever again! The Commander has grown heavy from good food, no regular exercise just living good while he finishes his career with the other soldiers stationed there.
They haven't talked long before the base is attacked & many are killed. The soldier who were not drilling or keeping in tip top shape are not prepared for the sneak attack nor for the catastrophic effect being fired on has with your mind set. With the Shields help the manage to get most of the remaining survivors off the base & head to Earth.
Their were grammar, punctuation, spelling & using wrong words but easily overlooked. The plot moves at a steady pace the characters are well written & the suspense keeps you reading not boring a bit.
That's why after spending so much time reading the book to see the head shield, who changed & grew through this war like situation not be a part of the ending was astounding! If there is a sequel I hope the author won't make another upsetting ending.
I liked the book made me go in & talk to my husband about War. Did he think living in a peaceful nation where guns are outlawed, meeting in a group to discuss any problems you had with the current governing body could get you arrested, & you had a curfew for bed & when to arise because the leaders on the mountain felt constant control kept war from happening. Like me he thought this would stifle creativity possibly losing innovations that could have enriched their Earth.

I just kept turning pages until it was "unfortunately" over. I could definitely see a follow on series to this... and would love to read it.
Evan as an US-American who don't like any sexual intercourse, although a member of a country with the biggest Sex Industry, you can dare the little love story in the book. Well, I hope so.
If you like sf stories, you will enjoy this one.
I got the fist book for free, and I had to buy the second one.
As a citican of Europe, I don't think like the US, that it's worth to kill all man and the whole world with atomic bombs
to overcome all enemies, but it's still a good story.
It's a real good SF story.
You will need to read the first installment which will provide a strong backdrop of the story. I enjoyed reading the series.
I bought this very soon after I finished The Shield, and wish that I had just bought them both at the same time so I wouldn't have had the gap. Mr. Jones has my attention and I will gladly buy any book he publishes.
I read both of the Shield books and found myself wanting more. Duty defines the Shield's existence and this aspect is very well portrayed. I found myself wishing for another volume when I was finished. I think you will too.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Shield Redemption. Peter Jones has crafted a believable future reality with an engaging style. I read his first novel, The Shield, and absolutely loved it. This book continues that storyline to its culmination. You care about Jones' characters and their plight right from the beginning. I honestly could not put the book down once I started. (I read until 0130 last night to finish it) My only regret is that the story was told in two novels. I could have read more. Excellent job Mr. Jones. I had an enjoyable time escaping with Grayson. I look forward to your next effort.
Excellent book, continued in a 2nd book. Great character development, excellent story line. I will read this book again and again. I am enthralled with the main character's sense of duty, honor and his outstanding characteristics.
